Curtis Sensei spent much of May in Europe teaching. Please find the following question and comment at the end of the seminar. Much of this discussion has to do with Norito which is a shinto prayer recited by the Osa after Soku Shin No Gyo (bell misogi). Please note that Norito is much more then a prayer but should be considered a celebration of life. The words chanted during bell misogi – To Ho Kami Emi Tame loosely translated means “With the sharp sword of my will, I penetrate the mirror universe, polishing my soul like a beautiful crystal ball.”… sums up the meaning of bell misogi and Norito. If you would like to purchase a cd to learn the Norito please contact us mauikiaikido @ gmail.com.

Dear Students, Head Instructors,
Once again we are looking forward to our annual Taigi Competition. This year, as you know, it will be held on the island of Maui at the Shunshinkan Dojo. I greatly hope that all dojo in HKF will give their utmost to participate, including under 18 division, adult, and group taigi. remember, everyone with rank of Yondan or below is eligible to participate.
In addition, this year marks that one year anniversary of Suzuki Sensei’s passing. Appropriately we will be having a special “mystery unveiling” in the dojo, as well as an opportunity at the banquet for some personal reminiscences, including visits from Suzuki Sensei’s brother and son.
Please click here: TAIGI SEMINAR FLYER to download the flyer for this seminar, which includes your registration form.
We look forward to seeing everyone this year on Maui!
Sincere Aloha,
Chris Curtis
Chief Instructor

Dear Friends, Students and Teachers,
On November 13 – 15 Curtis Sensei led the final HKF seminar of the year. the 2009 Omiki Seminar is a time where Curtis Sensei thanks all the students for their hard training and inspires them to continue on their journey. Some questions arose on what Omiki is and where it comes from. Of course this is a tradition that was passed down from Tohei Sensei to Suzuki Sensei who shared it with many of you as well as Curtis Sensei. This tradition has been a regular ceremony on Maui and now is a regular ceremony with HKF. The origins of Omiki come from Shinto. Omiki means Sacred Rice Wine. This sake is poured by the teacher for each student at the beginning and end of the year. Please enjoy the passionate discussion that Curtis Sensei provides in this seminar podcast.

On September 26th, 2009 Curtis Sensei recorded this Q & A in Bubenreuth, Germany. What transpired was a very open and honest lecture and discussion on training and the world we live in. Sensei always loves teaching in Europe and this is your opportunity to listen in while he discusses an email he received from a student on Maui.
Please note that Curtis Sensei is confidential with all correspondence written and verbal, however, he did receive permission for use of this email in his teaching.
